No variation. No deviation.
On Clades, to be a Clan is to be an exact copy.
A perfect society cloning themselves to survive,
even as the zombielike Frags threaten to overrun them
on an unforgiving planet.
Clan 1672 (privately known as Twain)
was never supposed to survive the Incubation Tank.
But he did. Illegally.
He is different from the other Clans.
A secret that could destroy him.
Realm: "Today I am revealing an illustration of one of the Fives Values of Clan: Contribution. Each Clan must contribute to their society. Because each Clan is supposed to be identical without special traits that are different from one another, each Clan is assigned a job through organized numbers."
How did you come up with the cover?
I'm a big fan of simplicity and am attracted to clean covers. For CLAN, the world is very futuristic and minimalistic, so I wanted to portray that look in the cover. I also wanted to distill the core theme into one iconic image. I think the broken stick-figure symbol reveals the story--out of all the cookie cutter figures, one is different. The theme color is blue due to the main character's eyes (an icy blue unlike his brethren's brown eyes).
How are you incorporating your artwork into your novel?
The paperback of CLAN has 25-30 black and white illustrations of various scenes, concepts, and details. Examples can be seen here. The ebook version does not contain illustrations due to constraints on the digital distribution.

What's your marketing method for CLAN?
I work as an artist in the video game industry, so I tend to like to communicate with visuals. I use a lot of art for promotions such as posters, preview images, and the book trailer which I made with the illustrations for CLAN. I also used to be involved in marketing and promotional art for games, so that helps too. I learned a lot about focusing on a theme and keeping things visually consistent. What were some of the most challenging aspects of publishing CLAN?
Going over every detail. The entire manuscript had to be inspected of course, but I also had to go through all my art, the paperback format, the trailer, the marketing art, cover art, and so on. The constant focusing and searching for errors on so many levels can be challenging.
