Friday Five/Marketing Round Up (3/26)

The Magic of Books

My daughter had her first book signing this week. Mary Pope Osborne was in town and my daughter just started reading them in Kindergarden this year.

She was so excited and Mary was funny getting all the kids engaged. Over 500 people showed up in a VERY small bookstore.

Watching her made me smile.

What about you? Do you remember your first signing?

A perfect picture! Your daughter is adorable and Mary looks so authorly artistic .. love it. I don't know many kids who didn't start with those Magic Tree House books. They are so popular with that early reader bunch.

How sweet! My first signing, I believe, was as an adult. It was very exciting! My kids have several signed books which they cherish. It's really a very special memory.

When you said your daughter "had her first signing," I thought you meant that she'd published a book! I don't remember my first signing, but I wasn't nearly that young. And yes, she is ADORABLE! You have an award over at my blog, by the way: www.bit.ly/cvKySZ

Sweet!! My daughter would be over the moon if she got to meet Mary Pope Osborn! Actually, so would I :)

And that link to the YouTube book deal interested me because someone actually gave me that book to read. Now I'm even more curious about it. I'll have to take it on vacation so I can read it!

It is fantastic your daughter went to a signing so young.I grew up in a tiny town in the middle of nowhere, so I didn't have a chance to go to a signing until I was an adult. Now I love to support authors by going to as many as I can. The magic of hearing someone read their words and the author seeing she has an audience is why I'm starting a blog this summer to promote the authors who live in my city. Thank you for your great blog.

You always have the most amazing links - thank you! Also, that's so cool that your daughter attended her first signing -- my son is in Kindergarten and I'm hoping to take him to one as well. :)

Your girlie is so happy and cute with her favorite book!

Thanks to Mrs. Pope Osborne's incredible writing, my youngest HAD to go to the Cloisters in York City to find the tapestry of the unicorn Dianthus.

It was a cross-country flight, then a taxi ride through Harlem, but we did it!!!

Mary Pop Osborne...my son would freak. I love her books too and cannot wait to read them to my daughter (my son has moved on to Percy Jackson). I am lucky to have a number of signed books from my trips to the Book Expo America...I treasure them all...I am pretty sure I never attended a signing when I was younger.

Thanks for all those links too!

What a wonderful picture - a keepsake, for sure! The first time I ever asked an author to sign a book was when I attended the Highlights Foundation Writer's Workshop at Chautauqua two years ago. There were so many wonderful writers there and I came home with some awesome signed copies, from Jerry Spinelli and Mary Casanova and Linda Sue Park to name a few. My first actual "signing" was just this past summer with Laura Bradford, that was a fun experience!
