A question. Do you recommend setting up an 'author' website before publishing, whether traditional or self.
I guess what I'm really concerned about is what do you put on the website before you have a book contract. Or before you have a self published book out?

What a great resource!

If you do book giveaways, how many is the "perfect" number without spending too much?

If you self publish and become reasonably successful does that decrease your chances of being picked up by a big publisher?

Awesome Shelli. Congrats. Sounds like a great resource. What's the best way to use Twitter both before you're ready to promote your book and when it releases?

Kath - I say yes - you can still have a book page and describe your books, put a bio, contact page, social media links. this will give you credibility with an agent or editor who googles you.

kelly - depends. I give away as many ebooks as I can. But I am an indie author. Paperbacks are scarse. I think you hav eto weigh why you are giving it away. if it is to get followers or people to tweet about your news - it might be wroth it. Or if it is one copy at a signing - also worth it. But if it is 10 to bloggers - i woudl be sure the bloggers have a good base, post within a certain time, etc

natalie - twitter is mainly for announcements and news. You can always use a hashtag to try and trend on twitter. have twitter RT contests prior to launching where people Rt messages. on launch day - create a hashtag for your book and have twitter contests for goodies.

Maybe those video production company los angeles bosses could have this as recommended reading for their video teams, so they can make their outputs even better.
