One Step At A Time Lyrics [lyricsyoulove.com]

Hurry up and wait
So close, but so far away
Everything that you've always dreamed of
Close enough for you to tasteBut you just can't touch
You wanna show the world, but no one knows your name yet

Wonder when and where and how you're gonna make it
You know you can if you get the chance
In your face as the door keeps slamming
Now you're feeling more and more frustrated
And you're getting all kind of impatient waiting

We live and we learn to take
One step at a time
There's no need to rush
It's like learning to fly
Or falling in love
It's gonna happen and it's
Supposed to happen that we
Find the reasons why
One step at a time

You believe and you doubt
You're confused, you got it all figured out
Everything that you wished for
Could be yours, should be yours, would be yours
If they only knew

When you can't wait any longer
But there's no end in sight
It's the faith that makes you stronger
The only way you get there
Is one step at a time

OMG. went to this post and clicked on the link only to discover it's the author of GRACELING. I LOVE that book! Absolutely love it. I know I'm writing too much but here's the thing about this wonderful book. The hero is awesome. For more than a year my 11 year old daughter has wanted to read Twilight because all her 10 and 11 yr old friends were. I told her she could read it when she was older. I tried to explain: This would be your first 'Romance' type story and I object to the way the vampire-guy infantalizes and controls the heroine in the kind of way that I would never want anybody to treat me OR treat her. I do not want her internalizing the idea that obsessive love--based on what? (where's the respect, affection, connection?)--is NORMAL. But she felt so left out. And her friends would says, "He's not abusive to her! No way!" (My point exactly--they think his behavior is normal...). But after I read GRACELING and absolutely fell in love with the independent strong heroine and the confident, loving, respectul, kind hero (did I mention HOT too?) I told her she could read Twilight AFTER she read Graceling so we could compare/contrast the way love is depicted and the way the guy treats the girl. She's reading it now.
Oh and don't get me started on the second book of the Twilight series where the whole book is about how she wants to kill herself because she's not with her boyfriend. And then how he wants to kill himself when he thinks she's gone. Yeah, I know Romeo and Juliet...but she's no Shakespear and all it's teaching girls is that 1) obessessive love is "normal" for girls; 2)"Real" love means you should want to die--and maybe try to kill yourself--if you're denied it. 3) Love is all that matters (as opposed to self-respect; accomplishment; connections to the outside world, etc.).
Okay, I'm sorry. Stepping off my soapbox now.
