6 Things on a Saturday

1. Whooooo knows about Owl Medicine?
I woke up - once again - to an owl hooting. Of course my hubby did not hear it. But as soon as I looked out the window, the owl stopped. WTF is up with owls!!! Are they trying to tell me something? Read this if you want to know more about what Native Americans thought. (With this health stuff going on, I have to admit I'm freaked out a bit by them)

Owls come in all sizes, from a tiny miniature that actually lives inside the cactus in the desert, to the great horned owl, which is the only bird that can out fly the golden eagle. A fully grown great horned is an awe inspiring creature. Its talons are furry, and closely resemble the paws of a baby mountain lion with claws extended. It is a meat eater, which means it can be a fierce warrior if challenged, or if something dear to it is threatened. It is often referred to as Night Eagle. Owl is at home in the night. It has great awareness of all that is around it at all times. It has predator vision, which means it sees clearly what it looks at. It has great intuition: it is the totem of psychics and clairvoyants. It has the courage to follow its instincts. Owl's medicine includes seeing behind masks, silent and swift movement, keen sight, messenger of secrets and omens, shape-shifting, link between the dark, unseen world and the world of light, comfort with shadow self, moon power, freedom.

2. The Sleep Gods have Answered.
My hubby let me sleep until 10:30. AH! I have not done this in years. he even took the kids out of the house so it was quiet. Wasn't that nice. Of course after the owl incident, I had nightmares but at least I am a bit refreshed. Isn't he GREAT! Thx honey

3. Time for a trip to the Salon.
Going to get my hair done today. haven't had it done in a while. I was kind of thinking of going red. Don' t know why? I think its because I watched America' top Model this week. One of the girls (the plus size model and I use plus size term lightly because she is what a size 6??) had brown hair and blueish green eyes like me changed to red hair in her makeover. I thought she looked good. But is red really me? maybe we should ask the owls?

4. A 5 year old's Brilliance
  • Mommy - How to policeman stop you when you are speeding? I bet they just shoot you.
  • Mommy - Ms. Cheryl told me unicorns were not real. I told her that I can believe what I want to. She just can't see them like I can.
  • Don't worry Mommy, you have to keep trying. I know you can get published just don't be a giver upper!
  • What does instinct mean? that something stinks??
5. A man of few words (from a 20-month old)
Me: Did you poo poo?
Him: No! (he did!)
Me: Do you want to take a nap?
Him: No!
Me: Do you want to play trains?
Him: No!
Me: Give me a kiss.
Him: No!

6. Boy I could use me some of this!
NPR had an article today listed: Can fearful memories be erased? What I found funny is that one way was drugs! No S$%# Sherlock. Drugs can erase anything (not that I would know) Check out the article, it is interesting.)

Have a nice saturday!

Hey...and now I know something about you! The owl totems. All makes sense with #1. Yes? (And I just encountered another eagle yesterday, but at least it didn't wake me up.)

Did you go red?!
Love the kids comments!

Okay, that's weird about the owl. I thought they were silent hunters! On other avian matters, (how's that for a segeue),this whole week I've been woken up around 2:30 or so to a bird twittering. Been driving me nuts! Every time, I think, it can't be possibly be dawn. I sit up look at the clock and it's 2:30 a.m. What kind of bird sings at night? And what does it 'mean?' (besides learning that my facility for cursing like a sailor is not at all compromised in the middle of the night...)

I think you'd look awesome as a red-head! Also, your kids comments are too cute. One thing I should warn you about...my son is a teenager now and that conversation you had with your 20-month old sounded distressingly similar ('cept I don't ask him if he took a poo poo...).

I didn't get to hear the whole article on the NPR thing on fearful memories but one thought comes up--if you remove the fear memory of touching a hot stove, wouldn't that be...uhm...i don't know...a little counterproductive? I get they're talking about severely traumatic memories but still. if you removed what you were frightened of, would you still be "you?"

Don't be a giver upper - there's some great advice.

Okay, wait...sleeping until 10:30am on a Saturday AND getting your hair done? That's almost better than a vacation, lol. Hope you had a great day!!

TAke it from me, red is always a good way to go! ;) And all I have to say about the Owls is wow... no wonder you had nightmares.

I liked today. Sorry about the Owl, but what a great hubby to let you sleep. We take turns when we can. I loved what your kids had to say. Especially about not being a "giver upper."

So what color did you go? I have been every color except black (too dark on me), red was especially fun.
Have a great weekend.

I'm sorry; I just had the funniest image.

Shelli: So, owls, should I dye my hair red?

Owl: Who? Who?

Shelli: Me, you idiot. Should I have my hairdresser dye my hair?

Owl: Who?

Shelli: My hairdresser! Aren't you listening to me?

Owl: Who?

Shelli: Oh, I give up.

It amused me, anyway.

Hi! Woke up with both kids in bed this morning. I moved over and Joshy said, "hey, you're in my lane!" Kids are hilarious :)

So glad we stumbled across your blog. Tons of useful info that we'll be sorting through!

Now you got me thinking about the meaning of birds. This morning I saw a hawk divebombing/chasing a crow. Crow got away then turned around and chased the red-tailed hawk! What was all that about?

Shelli (srjohannes) said...

all - No, i did not go red - i changed my appt so i could mull it over and find some pics :)

laura/jenn/lisa - so glad you came - love to find new blogs

Been checking out the blogs you list...Kid Lit Junkie is awesome. I love how this anonymous editorial assistant lays it on the line.

Ahhh I love that your five-year-old thinks that that police stop speeders by shooting. That's great.

Carrie Harris said...

Oh, that's one of the best things about getting your hair done is finding the pics! You could always post them, and we'll vote.

On second thought, maybe that's not such a good idea.

A man of few words... At least he did it!!! At least he did it. Unless it wasn’t wear it was supposed to be. Then that would be you saying NOOOOOOOOO!

I think your followers need to know if you went red. Is their a post out there that tells us the answer. We are all dying (hee, hee) to know!

Sweet Madelyn (sp?)- Instinct.... too funny. Andrew, my 6 year old, said that a boy in his class was "impressive". This boy is new to the class and Andrew thought it was great how well he has adapted. Kids....

My youngest is very choosy with his affection. It hurts sometimes but it's just who they are... *sigh* (love this!)
